Zrinjevac Park

Zrinjevac Park, located in Zagreb's Lower Town is a hub for culture, relaxation, and social life, known as the "Park of Music" or "Green Heart of Zagreb".

Zrinjevac Park is one of Zagreb's most important green spaces, beloved by tourists and locals alike. Established in the 19th Century, it was part of the ambitious Lenuci Horseshoe urban development, a series of interconnected parks and squares created by visionary architect Milan Lenuci. The park was named in honour of the Zrinski family, a noble Croatian-Hungarian family known for their role in resisting the Ottomans. Opening in 1829, it was originally conceived as a military parade ground, but it was transformed into a lush, landscaped park in the 1850s, becoming one of the first publicly accessible parks in Zagreb.

Zrinjevac is designed in a formal, symmetrical style, with manicured lawns, flowerbeds, and tree-lined pathways. The park is rectangular, with longitudinal paths and crisscrossing walkways creating a grid-like pattern. The central music pavilion, built in 1891, is the park’s focal point and is known for hosting open-air concerts, especially during the summer and as part of the Advent market over the Christmas period. It is these frequent performances that earned Zrinjevac the nickname, the "Park of Music."
