Bampton

Bampton is a picturesque village in the Cotswolds, known for serving as the fictional town of Downton in many scenes of the famous TV series Downton Abbey.

Bampton is a historic village dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, located in Oxfordshire, just South of the Cotswolds border. Like many quintessential Cotswolds villages, it delights visitors with its quiet lanes, stone cottages and traditional English gardens. It is best known for its connection to the hugely popular period drama Downton Abbey where it played the role the fictional village of Downton, with many exterior village scenes filmed in Bampton throughout the series' five seasons.

Right in the heart of the village, eagle-eyed Downton Abbey fans will recognise St Mary’s Church, used for weddings, funerals, and christenings in the series, a number of nearby homes that served as Crawley House, The Grantham Arms and The Dog & Duck pubs and Bampton library, which doubled as Downton Cottage Hospital.
